Transforming Your Room with an Accent Wall

Why choose an Accent Wall?

Are you looking for a simple and affordable way to add some personality and charm to your boring room? Do you love the look of wood and want to create a cozy and inviting space? If you answered yes, then you might want to consider building an accent wall.

An accent wall is a wall that stands out from the rest of the walls in a room, usually by having a different color, texture, or design. Accent walls can make a room look more interesting, spacious, or dramatic, depending on the effect you want to achieve.

Some Options

One of the easiest and most affordable ways to create an accent wall is to use wood. You can use any kind of wood you like, such as MDF, plywood, shiplap, rustic (rough or reclaimed) wood, or trim and paint or stain it to match your style and mood! You can also create different patterns and shapes with the wood, such as grids, stripes, chevrons, or herringbones, and more! Each adds more dimension and character to your wall.

The General Plan

Building an accent wall is a fun and rewarding DIY project that anyone can do! All you need are some basic tools and materials, and a few hours of your time. You can follow these general steps to create your own accent wall:

  • Plan your layout and gather your materials. Measure your wall and decide how many wood boards you will need and how you will arrange them. Choose the type, size, and color of your wood boards and paint. You can find everything you need at your local Randall Brothers!
  • Prep your wall and paint your boards. Remove any nails, screws, or hooks from your wall, and fill any holes or cracks with wood filler. Sand any rough spots and wipe the wall clean with a damp cloth. Paint your wall and your boards and let them dry.
  • Cut and install your boards. Measure and mark your boards according to your design, and cut them with a saw. Sand the edges of your boards to smooth them out. Install your boards on your wall with wood glue and nails. Use a level and a pencil to make sure your boards are straight and aligned.
  • Finish and decorate your accent wall. Fill any gaps or seams between your boards with caulk, and any nail holes with wood filler. Sand any excess caulk or wood filler and touch up any paint if needed. Enjoy your accent wall and decorate it!
